Gravitational potential difference between any two points in a gravitational field is independent of the choice of reference. When potential at the infinity is assigned zero value,
Potential at the surface =−RGM=Vs
Potential at the centre =−2R3GM=Vc Vs−Vc=−RGM+2R3GM=2RGM
Now, when potential at the surface is assigned zero value, Vs−Vc=Vs′−Vc′ ⇒2RGM=0−Vc′ ⇒Vc′=−2RGM
Here, Vs′ and Vc′ are the new values of potential at the sum and centre respectively.
