A population at any given time is composed of individuals of different ages. An age pyramid represents the structure of the age distribution (percent individuals of a given age or age group) plotted for the population. Generally, the age pyramids for the human population shows the age distribution of males and females in a combined diagram. The population consists of three groups: pre-reproductive, reproductive, and post-reproductive.
