The absorption spectra of chlorophylls a and b show that they absorb maximum light in the blue-violet and red wavelengths. The pigments are often known after the wavelength which is absorbed to the maximum, e.g., $Chl{a}_{673}Chl{a}_{683}(P_{680}),Chl{a}_{703}(P_{700})$.
