Gamma immunoglobulin (IgG) has four polypeptide chains. Of the four chains, there are two long chains, called heavy chains and two short chains, called light chains, which may be either lambda or kappa type. The four polypeptide chains are held together by disulphide bonds to form a Y-shaped molecule. Gamma globulins are synthesised in germinal centres of lymphatic tissue.
