Drupe is a fleshy, single seeded (rarely more as two in Zizyphus; three in Borassus, palmyra palm, vern tar), indehiscent fruit with the seed enclosed in a stony endocarp. The fruit develops from mono or polycarpellary superior ovary where one or more (rarely) ovules develop into seeds. The mesocarp is fleshy or fibrous and edible in most of the drupes, while epicarp forms the outer skin, which may (.eg, Prunus persica-peach; Zizyphus Jumbo-Indian plum etc) or may not (eg, Mangifera indica-mango, Cocos nudfera-coconut) be edible.
