Free central placentation is seen in multicarpellary ovary. Partition walls are found in early stages which disintegrate later on and the ovary becomes unilocular. Only one central swollen placenta is present which bears a number of ovules at the centre of ovary, quite separated from the ovary wall eg. family Caryophyllaceae. Family Cucurbitaceae, Malvaceae and Orchidaceae respectively have parietal, axile and parietal (or axile) placentation.
