Solution:

Transition metals due to the presence of partially filled d-orbitals, are coloured.

The unpaired electron present in partially filled -orbital is excited to the higher energy -orbital by absorbing energy from visible light and thus exhibits the complementary colour. Due to which the transition metal ions appear coloured.
