Floral formula is a means to represent the structure of a flower using numbers, letters and various symbols, presenting substantial information about the flower in a compact form. It can represent particular species, or can be generalised to characterise higher taxa, usually giving ranges of organ numbers. Floral diagram represents the number of parts of a flower, their general structural arrangement, aestivation, adhesion, cohesion, position with respect to mother axis. Floral diagram fails to indicate the position of the ovary on the thalamus whether superior or inferior.
