↵ Tobacco mosaic virus was the first virus to be discovered and first virus to be crystallized. Its discovery was made by the Dmitri Ivanowasky in 1892. It causes leaf mottling and discolouration in tobacco and many other plants. It is a rod-shaped virus whose capsomeres are arranged in a hollow right-handed helix. It contains positive sense, single stranded RNA as genetic material.
