Simple distillation can be used for the separation and purification of a mixture of two or more miscible organic liquids which are sufficiently stable at their boiling points and their boiling points differ by 30−50K . The more volatile liquid distils over first while the less volatile liquid distils over afterwards. For example, mixture of ether (b.p.308K) and benzene (b.p.353K) can be separated by simple distillation.
