The ovule consists of a female gametophyte or embryo sac. A Polygonum type of embryo sac is a structure consisting of 7 cells and 8 nuclei. Out of which, the egg cell involve in syngamy and the central two nucleated cells involve in triple fusion, giving rise to zygote and endosperm, respectively. The male gametophyte or pollen grain develops into anther. At the time of pollen dehiscence, the pollen grain consists of either 2 or 3 cells.
