It usually develops from superior ovary and their seeds get detached from the placenta at maturity. The pericarp, placenta and seed of the tomato fruit are edible. The fruit of papaya (Carica papaya) is also berry. The edible part of fruit is mesocarp. The fruit of apple and pear are pome. Their edible part is fleshy thalamus. Pome fruit develops from a syncarpous and inferior ovary. The fleshy thalamus surrounds the ovary.
