Restriction enzymes also called restriction nucleases (EcoRI), recognises the palindromic sequences in the DNA and surround the recognition point like the sequence GAATTC for EcoRI. The enzyme cuts both the strand of the DNA double helix at the complementary point, between the G and A base creating the sticky ends, leaving behind AATTC sequence.
