The period occupied by a cell between cytokinesis and the beginning of next prophase is known as interphase. The interphase is divided into G1 -phase, S-phase and G2 - phase. During G1 -phase synthesis of protein and RNA required for DNA replication takes place. During S-phase DNA and histones are synthesized and each chromosome replicate into two chromatids. During G2 - phase synthesis of RNA and protein continue i.e., cell prepare for M-phase.
