Solution:
The mucous membrane of intestinal wall is a single layered epithelium of tall columnar cells with interspersed goblet cells. The epithelial cells are mostly absorptive with brush border having microvilli. In between the villi, the mucous membrane is profusely folded and the infoldings form pit like simple, tubular intestinal glands or crypts of Leiberkuhn.
