Collenchyma is simple permanent tissue which is made up of isodiametric or elongated living cells. It is a type of mechanical tissue that consists of living cells. It originates from ground meristem and retains protoplasm even at maturity. It provides rigidity with flexibility and also carries vital processes like photosynthesis and also serves as a storage tissue. It is found in hypodermis of dicot stems and petioles.
