The fruit of coconut is drupe. It is single seeded fruit characterised by the presence of stony endocarp. The epicarp is thin whereas the mesocarp is fibrous. They are also called, stone fruits. Berry have a thin epicarp, fleshy mesocarp and thin endocarp. They usually develop from a superior ovary e.g., Solanaceae. Cypsella develops from inferior ovary and has a pericarp free from seed coat e.g., Compositae Cremocarp is a type of schizocarpic fruit. It dehisces into two mericarps which remain attached to carpophore e.g., Umbelliferae.
