Carbohydrates are complex organic compound made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. They are :
(i) Monosaccharide made up of only single unit, e.g., glucose.
(ii) Oligosaccharide made up of 2−9 units of monosaccharides e.g., sucrose.
(iii) Polysaccharide made up of more than 9 units of monosaccharides. e.g., cellulose, starch etc.
Proteins are macromolecules, made up of amino acid units, e.g., actin, elastin.
