Glycoproteins (consisting of polysaccharide bound to protein) and Glycolipids (consisting of polysaccharide binds to lipid) are formed by Golgi complex and add these to membrane thus forming glycocalyx, which helps in cell recognition and adhesion. Lipids are organic compounds, occurring in living organisms. They have variety of functions in living organism. Fats and oils are convenient and concentrated means of storing food energy in plants and animals. Phospholipids and sterols, such as cholesterol are major component of plasma membrane. Proteins are large group of organic compound found in all living organisms. They are composed of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and most also contain sulphur. They form the framework of protoplasm.
