Photosythesis occurs in two phases: photochemical and biosynthetic. Photochemical phase is also called light or hill reaction. Biosynthetic phase is also called as dark or Blackman's reaction. Dark reaction catalyses assimilation of CO2 to carbohydrates. They occur in stroma or matrix of chloroplasts.
