The pairing of homologous chromosomes takes place during zygotene stage it is known as synapsis. In the next state i.e., pachytene state, the exchange of some genes (parts of chromatids) take place between two non-sister chromatids of a pair of homologous chromosomes. In the last stage of prophase-I i.e., diakines is, the process of terminalization i.e., movement of chiasmata (sites of crossing over) towards the telomeres of the chromosomes takes place. In the anaphase-I stage of meiosis-I, the process of disjunction of genomes i.e. movement of sister chromatids of a pair of homologue towards apposite pole, takes place.
