Acid rain is the precipitation having a pH value of less than about 5.0 which has adverse effect on the fauna and flora, on which it falls. Rainwater has a pH value of 5.6 due to the presence of dissolved CO 2. Acid rain results from emission into the atmosphere of various pollutant gases, particularly SO 2 and various oxides of nitrogen, which originate from burning of fossil fuel, car exhaust fumes etc. CFCs (Chloro Fluoro Carbons) mainly act as ozone destroyer. Chief source of H 2 S are decaying vegetation and animal matter especially in aquatic habitats. It causes headache, nausea, collapse, coma and finally death.
