Solution:

When a horizontal force is applied on uniform bar to pull it, then an acceleration is produced in the each cross-section of rod. Hence, each section of rod experiences a tension which is zero at other end. Therefore, stress in the rod developed gradually reduces to zero at the end of the bar where no force is applied.
