The hormone responsible for diabetes Insipidus in humans is vasopressin or anti-diuretic hormone (ADH). An impairment affecting synthesis or release of ADH results in a diminished ability of the kidney to conserve water leading to water loss and dehydration.
ADH is released by the posterior pituitary gland. It is responsible for the storage of hormones oxytocin and vasopressin secreted by the posterior pituitary. The disease is called diabetes insipidus.
