From mirror formula, f1=v1+u1
As, the object lies along the axis, for the end nearer to the mirror, u1=−20cm ∴v11=f1−u11 ∴v11=−101−−201 ∴v1=−20cm
Negative sign indicates image is on the same side as that of object.
Alternate method
As one end of object lies at 2F, its image from concave mirror will also get formed at 2F on same side, i.e., ∣u∣=∣v∣.
Similarly for the other end of the object, u2=−(20+20)=−40cm ∴v21=f1−u21 ∴v21=−101−−401 ∴v2=3−40cm ∴ Length of the image =v2−v1 =3−40−(−20) =6.67cm
