Dodo or Raphus cucullatus (flightless bird) went extinct because they were hunted by Dutch sailors as they were relatively easy to catch. Stellar sea cow or Hydrodamalis gigas (large aquatic mammal) were hunted for their meat, fat, and hide. Passenger pigeons (Ectopistes migratorius) were found in a huge number in North America and they were also hunted for food.
