Q.
A biconvex symmetrical lens made of glass of refractive index 1.56 has radii of curvature of magnitude 20cm . Find the position of the image formed if an object is placed at a distance of 10cm from this lens.
Here, R1=20cm,R2=−20cm,u=−10cm
and μ=1.56
Using lens maker's formula, f1=(1.56−1)(201+201)⇒f=0.56×220=17.86cm
Now, from lens equations, v=u+fuf=−10×17.86−10×17.86=2.86cm
Since v is negative, the image will be formed on the same side as that of object.
