Q. XNA is a laboratory-made nucleic acid made of nucleotides in which one component has been replaced by chemical X. The chemical X is not found in nature. The part of the molecule responsible for coding is not changed. Which organic component of a DNA or RNA nucleotide has been replaced by X?

Solution:

Nucleotide is made of 3 components- 5C sugar, phosphate and N-base. N-base forms an integral part of the coding as the sequence of the nucleic acid is based on their layout.
Phosphate acts as the backbone helping in joining the two nucleotides together resulting in the formation of a long chain polynucleotides that is nucleic acids.
