Q. Why is $ F_2 $ the strongest oxidizing agent (among halogens) although electron affinity of $ Cl_2 $ is higher than $ F_2 $ ?

J & K CETJ & K CET 2017The p-Block Elements - Part2

Solution:

$F_{2}$ is strongest oxidising agent due to its low enthalpy of dissociation as $F—F$ bond is weak and high enthalpy of hydration of small $F^{-}$ ion
