Solution:

Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas. It combines with haemoglobin more rapidly than oxygen to form carboxyhaemoglobin most stable combination with the haemoglobin of blood. $CO$ has $200-250$ times more affinity for haemoglobin as compared to oxygen.
