Q. While assigning $R$, $S$ configuration the correct order of priority of groups attached to chiral carbon atom is

Solution:

The correct priority order for the groups attached to chiral carbon atom is
$CONH _{2}> COCH _{3}> CHO > CH _{2} OH$
This order can be explained by these two rules:
(i) Higher priority is assigned to atoms (directly attached to the carbon atom) of higher atomic number.
(ii) A doubly or triply bonded atom is considered equivalent to two or three such atoms.
