Q. Which was the first enzyme to be crystallised and purified?

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020

Solution:

Most of the enzymes or biological middle men are made-up of proteins. They catalyze biological reactions without themselves being used up.
Enzymes cannot transport from cell to cell, so each enzyme is synthesized in a particular living cell. The non-catalyzed reaction requires higher activation energy then does in a catalyzed reaction. However, there is no difference between free energy and catalyzed and un-catalyzed reaction.
Edward Buchner was first to isolate the enzyme, i.e., ‘zymase’. J.B. Sumner crystallized urease enzyme. Sumner defined enzyme as a protein with catalytic activity. Enzyme show 3D structure containing ‘R’ (alkyl) group of amino acid that form active sites during the folding of the polypeptide chain.
