Solution:

The mechanism of sex determination in grasshopper is of the $XO$ type in which the males have only one $X$-chromosome besides the autosomes, whereas females have a pair of $X$- chromosomes. Males produce two types of sperms-gynosperms with $X$ and androsperm without $X$. Fertilization with $X$-bearing sperm produces female offspring and by no $X$ sperm yields male offspring.
