Q. Which scientist experimentally proved the existance of electromagnetic waves?

AFMCAFMC 2004

Solution:

In $1865$, Maxwell on mathematical back ground assumed that an oscillating electric charge produces the electromagnetic waves of frequency equal to the frequency of oscillations of the charge. Hertz, in $1888$, experimentally found that an oscillating electric charge produces the electromagnetic waves. Then in $1895$, J.C. Bose experimentally produced the electromagnetic waves of wavelength in the range of $25 \,mm$ to $5 \,mm$ nearly. Then in $1899$, Marconi could send the electromagnetic waves upto a distance of nearly $50 \,km$ by transmitting them through antenna. Thus, Hertz first experimentally proved the existance of electromagnetic waves.
