Q. Which phenomenon is common in both light and sound waves ?

UP CPMTUP CPMT 2009

Solution:

The phenomenon of diffraction is exhibited by both sound and light waves. Sound waves require a medium to travel, hence they do not travel in vacuum. Light waves do not require a medium to travel, hence they travel in vacuum. Sound waves are longitudinal waves, hence they do not exhibit the phenomenon of polarisation. Light waves are transverse waves, hence they exhibit the phenomenon of polarisation.
