Q. Which one of the following statements is correct for the reaction?
$ CH _{3} COOC _{2} H _{5}(a q) + NaOH (a q) \longrightarrow $
$ CH _{3} COONa (a q)+ C _{2} H _{5} OH (a q) $

EAMCETEAMCET 2012

Solution:

For the reaction,

$CH _{3} COOC _{2} H _{5}(a q) + NaOH (a q) \longrightarrow $

$CH _{3} COONa (a q)+ C _{2} H _{5} OH (a q)$

the molecularity is two because two molecules are taking part.

Moreover, rate law for the reaction is,

rate $(r)=k\left[ CH _{3} COOC _{2} H _{5}\right][ NaOH ]$

$\therefore $ Order of reaction is $1+1=2$
