In eukaryotic cells, the primary mRNA is nonfunctional and is called heterogenous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). To make it functional- or ready for protein synthesis, hnRNA processing occurs inside the nucleus. Processing of hnRNA includes splicing of introns, capping at 5' end of hnRNA with methyl guanosine triphosphate and tailing at 3' end with adenylate residues.
