So, in this reaction potassium tert-butoxide in tert-butyl alcohol $\left[\left( CH _{3}\right)_{3} CO ^{-} K ^{+} in \left( CH _{3}\right)_{3} COH \right]$ is

used to obtain the maximum percentage of terminal alkene by dehydrohalogenation of $CH _{3} CH _{2} C \left( CH _{3}\right)_{2} Br$.

Note When a more hindered base is used, more of the thermodynamically less favoured terminal alkene is generated.
