Q. Which one of the following is a flagellated protozoan?

CHD CETCHD CET 2012Biological Classification

Solution:

On the basis of locomotory organelles, protozoans (Phylum Protozoa) are divided into four groups:
(i) Mastigophora with one to several flagella for locomotion, e.g. Trypanosoma, Trichonympha, etc.
(ii) Sarcodina - develop pseudopodia for locomotion and ingestion of food, e.g.. Amoeba, Entamoeba,
(iii) Sporozoans are endoparasites and in them locomotory organelles are absent, e.g., Plasmodium,
(iv) Ciliata - these possess cilia which are used for locomotion and driving food, e.g., Paramecium.
