Q. Which of these statements about linkage groups are correct?

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020Principles of Inheritance and Variation

Solution:

The tendency of genes present on the same chromosome to be inherited together is called linkage. All the genes on a chromosome are said to be linked to one another and belong to the same linkage group. The number of linkage groups of a particular species corresponds to its haploid number of chromosomes or number of pairs of chromosomes. Drosophila has 8 chromosomes thus it has four linkage groups while Pisum has 14 chromosomes thus it has seven linkage groups.
