Q. Which of the solution will be acidic?
(1) $0.1 \,M \,FeSO _{4}$
(2) $0.1 \,M \,\left( NH _{4}\right)_{2} SO _{4}$
(3) $0.1 \,M \,CH _{3} COONa$
(4) $0.1 \,M \,NH _{4} OH$

BHUBHU 2007

Solution:

$FeSO _{4}$ and $\left( NH _{4}\right)_{2} SO _{4}$ the salts are of weak bases with strong acids and undergo hydrolysis to give acidic solution, while $CH _{3} COONa$ (salt of weak acid and strong base) gives basic solution.
$NH _{4} OH$ is weak base.
