Aldehyde containing number. $ \alpha -H$ atom on reaction with concentrated alkali, undergoes disproportionation reaction. This is also known as Cannizzaros reaction. Since propanal contains $ \alpha -H$ atom hence it will not undergo disproportionation reaction. Propanal gives aldol condensation with dil. alkali.
