Q. Which of the following will not be soluble in sodium hydrogen carbonate?
NTA Abhyas
NTA Abhyas 2020
A
Benzenesulphonic acid
0%
B
Benzoic acid
0%
C
o-Nitrophenol
100%
D
2, 4, 6-trinitrophenol
0%
Solution:
2.4.6-Trinitro phenol, benzoic acid and benzene sulphonic acid are sobuble in $\text{NaH}\text{O}_{3}$ .
$\text{Acid}+\text{NaHC}\text{O}_{3} \rightarrow \text{salt}+H_{2}\text{C}\text{O}_{3}$
Reaction is possible in forward direction if acid is more acidic then $H_{2}\text{C}\text{O}_{3}.$
O-nitrophenol is less acidic than $H_{2}\text{C}\text{O}_{3}$ so it is not soluble in sodium hydrogen carbonate.
$H_{2}CO_{3}$ is more acidic then
and reaction proceed in strong acid to weak acid so, above reaction is not feasible forward direction
