The hormone responsible for maintaining the diurnal rhythm of the body is melatonin. It is secreted by the pineal gland, which is situated on the dorsal side of the forebrain.
Exopthalmic goitre is characterized by protrusion of eyeballs, weight loss, enlargement of thyroid gland and an increased basal metabolic rate. This increased basal metabolic rate is the cause for excessive weight loss.
Addison's disease is a condition occurring due to decreased secretion of hormones from the adrenal cortex i.e. the outer part of adrenal gland. It is characterized by a lot of weakness and fatigue.
Hypersecretion of parathormone causes decrease in the deposition of calcium in bones.
