NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020The p-Block Elements - Part2

Solution:

$AlCl_{3}$ exists as a dimmer $\left(\right.Al_{2}Cl_{6}\left.\right)$ . It is a strong Lewis acid as Al has an incomplete octet and has a tendency to gain electrons. $AlCl_{3}$ undergoes hydrolysis easily and forms an acidic solution.

$AlCl _{3}+3 H _{2} O \rightarrow Al ( OH )_{3}+3 HCl$

i.e., $AlCl_{3}$ sublimes at 100oC under vaccum.
