Q. Which of the following salts undergoes hydrolysis?

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022

Solution:

$K_{2}SO_{4},KCl$ and $NaNO_{3}$ are the salts of strong acids and strong basis, so they do not undergo hydrolysis. $CH_{3}COOK$ is salt of weak acid, $CH_{3}COOH$ and strong basic NaOH, so it hydrolyses to give basic solution (i.e., $pH>7$ )
$\left(\text{CH}\right)_{\text{3}} \left(\text{COO}\right)^{-} \text{K} \, \text{+} \, \text{HOH} \rightarrow \underset{\left(\text{weak} \, \text{acid}\right)}{\left(\text{CH}\right)_{\text{3}} \text{COOH}} \, \text{+} \, \underset{\left(\text{strong} \, \text{base}\right)}{\text{KOH}}$
