The isomers which have same structural formula but have different relative arrangement of atoms or molecules in space are called stereoisomers, and the phenomenon is called stereoisomerism or space isomerism. The stereoisomerism is of three types:
(I) Geometrical isomerism
(II) Conformational isomerism
(III) Optical isomerism
