Q. Which of the following is the correct graph between gravitational field $F$ on a particle with distance $r$ due to a thin spherical shell of radius $R$ ? $\left(\right.r \, is \, measured \, from \, the \, centre \, of \, the \, spherical \, shell\left.\right)$

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020

Solution:

Gravitational field due to the thin spherical shell.
Inside the shell,
$F=0$ ..(For r < R)
On the surface of the shell,
Solution
$F=\frac{G M}{R^{2}} \, $ For $r=R$
Outside the shell,
$F=\frac{G M}{r^{2}}$ … $\left(\right.For \, r>R\left.\right)$
The variation of F with distance r from the centre is as shown in the figure.
