Q. Which of the following is strongest Bronsted base?

AIIMSAIIMS 2001The p-Block Elements - Part2

Solution:

$HClO _{4}$ is the strongest acid among $HClO , HClO _{2}, HClO _{3}$

and $HClO _{4}$ as more the number of oxygen atoms attached,

more is the acidity of the molecule order of acidity is:

$HClO < HClO _{2}< HClO _{3}< HClO _{4}$

So the conjugate base order will be just the reverse:

$ClO ^{-}> ClO _{2}^{-}> ClO _{2}^{-}> ClO _{3}{ }^{-}> ClO _{4}^{-}$
