Mercuric chloride $\left( HgCl _{2}\right)$ is also known as corrosive sublimate as it is highly poisonous and corrosive. It is used $(9 \%)$ solution for sterlization of surgical instruments, washing hands, preservative for wood and hide. Its antidote is white of an egg. It is commercially prepared as follows :
$HgSO _{4}+2 NaCl \rightarrow HgCl _{2}+ Na _{2} SO _{4}$
